SIT is a volunteer service for seniors (over 55) who are developmentally disabled/mentally retarded and reside in Butler County. Our main objective is to match volunteers from the community with older persons who have an DD/MR diagnosis in order to encourage a sense of self worth, reduce social isolation, and provide social opportunities.

Program Highlights

Encourages friendships between community volunteers and seniors who have special needs.

Provides community integration for seniors who are often socially isolated.

Encourages participants to integrate into the social atmosphere and activities of local Senior Centers.

SIT offers participants special group events at least 3 times each year which have included trips to Pirates' Baseball Games, an annual Holiday party, and summer picnics.

Other group events have included trips to Living Treasures Animal Park, a boat trip at Moraine State Park, fishing and bowling outings, and indoor picnics.
