Goals & Achievements

Why is high quality early education important?

  • A child’s experiences in the first three years greatly affect the rest of his or her life.
  • The human brain develops more rapidly between birth and age five than during any other later period. This is a time of enormous social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.

  About the Council

A child’s future is significantly shaped by what happens in the early years of their life. In response to a statewide initiative to address the needs of children and support their ability to grow up healthy, safe, and ready to learn, the Butler County Early Care & Education Council was formed. The council is a county-wide collaboration of organizations and individuals who are united by their desire and commitment to increase the quality of early care and education for all children in our community.

You Can Make a Difference!

While Pennsylvania is making great strides and investments in early education, many children do not have access to the quality learning opportunities they need for a successful start. These children could live in your neighborhood, attend your church, or be a relative. Your help can make a difference.

• Promote early education
• Support the Keystone STARS program
• Make early childhood issues a government priority
• Participate in volunteer efforts

For more information about volunteer opportunities or to become
part of the council, contact Council Coordinator Julie Thumma at Lifesteps, 724-283-1010 ext. 310, or e-mail jthumma@lifesteps.net.

Each effort, however small, can have a lasting effect!
