Family Support Programs Get Gift of $14,000 PITTSBURGH – Two Butler County programs that support families during divorce, death and other difficult family situations received $14,000 from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. Lifesteps, Inc., which offers programs to help families, received $6,500, while the Parental Stress Center, which assists those caring for children, received $7,500. “By supporting these programs, Highmark hopes to educate the community about the value of a stable family and to increase effective parental care,” said Yvonne Cook, Highmark community and health initiatives vice president, in a news release. Lifesteps, Family Services of Butler Memorial Hospital and the Butler Collaborative for Families developed the Families Forever Program. That program educates children and families on the communication skills needed to deal with the emotional impact from separation or divorce and aims to develop healthy parent-child relationships and improve psychological well-being of families. Parental Stress Center’s First Time Fathers and Father’s Resource Center programs will receive funding through the Highmark grant and are directed toward building stronger relationships between fathers and young children, the news release states. The programs support and educate fathers who are working to maintain a positive family environment while dealing with family issues, including divorce and death. They also help fathers develop career opportunities and reach family financial and emotional goals.
